Tiffany Interview

Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.

My alias is f.d.Von & I’m a poet, born & raised in East London. I began writing poetry at the age of 10 as a form of therapy to express my deepest thoughts, I’ve never been the type to speak openly about my emotions so poetry was a great outlet for me. I was encouraged to do so by my mentors & my family members as they also came from a creative & artistic background.

What inspired me to start writing was my mentors, Mr K & Mr. Elia. They were my music tutors – they would read my lyrics that I had written for my music & were extremely impressed. They mentioned to me that my lyrics sounded like poetry & I should take poetry seriously, this led to them informing me my parents about this, who also agreed & gave me the push I needed to pursue poetry.

Describe your writing process? Is there anything unique about it?
My writing process isn’t anything special, I don’t think. I often pull inspiration from the things that have happened in my life, especially romantically. I have a muse I use that makes writing very easy for me & I also write about friendships.

When I want to write about a specific moment or person, I try to envision that I’m back at that moment or with that person & I write as freely, purely & honestly as I can & from there, I’ll tweak a few mistakes or if I write something that doesn’t make sense, it’s removed. Most of my poems are free verse so rhyming isn’t my aim, I think the unique nature of my poems is that I’m able to capture the readers attention by being a visual writer, so it allows the reader to use their imagination.

Have you published any books or do you have a desire to do so?
I currently don’t have any books released but I do plan on releasing my book in the latter half of this year called “Metamorphosis”.

Do you have any favorite poets or authors?
I do! My favourite authors are r.h.sin, s.l.gray & Mr. Amari Soul, I love them, they are phenomenal people & their work reflects that.

Do you have a favorite book of poetry or poems?
There’s so many to choose from! One of my absolute favourite books is Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. She writes so eloquently & with so much depth, I aspire to write like her one day.

There are a few poems I love, “Touched by an Angel” by Maya Angelou is a complete masterpiece & work of art, as well as “Untitled” by James Baldwin which is incredibly thought provoking!

What are you reading now?
I’m currently not trying to read any books right now, I don’t want to ruin my creative process while I’m working on my own project, however, my close friends are trying to get me to read adult romance novels as they would like to gauge my reaction & speak about it with them.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I do a number of different things; I’m a singer-songwriter so I write my own material & compositions. I also co-write with other musicians & help out with different projects!

I also plan on adopting either a guinea pig or a cat! I have been doing a lot of research on how to care for a furry friend so I look forward it!

My hobbies are working out, dance, reading & travelling. I love exploring & seeing the world, it inspires me to work harder in order to continue to be able to do what I love.

Are you working on a current project?
Yes! I’m currently working on my debut poetry project called “Metamorphosis”. It’s collection of poems that entail the healing process after a heartbreak. It’s been an interesting but exciting process formulating the book BUT I’m super excited & extremely proud of my book!
