Our Gothic Journey by Hank Cranston-Moore

gothic_night

Let us walk this evening
Together we two
And embark on a journey which can do no good.
Cutting through the mist of foggy moorland
Stepping over peat and marsh,
we walk into the deadest of night.
We are not occult figures.
No.
Our pale, ashen skins light the way against a darkened sky
The fog grows dense
We are overcome by a sudden strangeness.
An impending gloom that rises
like a carefully graduated crescendo.
We know that something evil is in the distance.
Our nighttime journey has taken us far,
too far in fact as we come upon a wood,
a thick wood of beech and oak.
Without a moment’s respite we hear footsteps.
They grow steadily louder as someone, or something, draws nigh.
Emerging from the distance is a man on a steed
A black horse of splendid bearing.
The fellow is clad in dark cape and
Victorian top hat turned up slightly at the brim.
His lips are an unusual shade of crimson,
painted on like a splattering of blood.
Lucy and I hold one another tightly.
Two Goths without fear of the night
trembling at this sinister presence.
The stranger stands before us.
He offers no salutation nor reason for his approach.
Gently, almost pleadingly, he takes Lucy by the hand
which he kisses in the most delicate manner.
She is mesmerized by the man, as if in a trance.
The gentleman speaks his first words,
telling her it is time to go.
Acquiescing to his genteel but firm command,
it is as if this is something she expects,
something it is her duty to abide.
Lucy ascends the horse without objection, without hesitation.
Together they ride off, leaving me alone in the wood
on this deadest of Gothic nights.

Love Defined by Sharon Hendricks

couple-1246304_960_720

How do you define love?
Is it a loving look, a warm smile?
Is it a warm hug on a cold night,
A warm cup of cocoa by the fire?
Or is it someone bringing soup when one is sick?
Love is all of these things and more.
Love is what I feel for you, now and always
And love is what I give to you now.

For the Children by Natasha Niemi

sea

As the days go rolling by,
You have to keep reaching for the sky.
Let no one steer you away from your course
Because you are your only energy source.
Keep on soaring both near and far;
Your light constantly shines
You are a shining star.

Here for Me by Sarah Spoors

barcelona-1620957_960_720

You’re there for me when skies are grey
You turn them to skies of blue
You walk with me and hold my hand
And that’s why I love you
You know when I need some time alone
And give me room to breathe
You let me be who I am
And you are true to me
I couldn’t ask for a better man
You’re all I will ever need
So thank you once, twice and thrice
For being here for me

Division by Heather Sally

heart_rain

The first time we made love
You looked at me
Content, confident
You said we had become one
Like two amoebas conjugating
A new, single organism emerges
Rejuvenated
Pushing forward together
With dynamism and vitality

Time has a habit of changing things.
Like an amoeba
we divided
Each becoming a separate life form
Each with a disconnected purpose.

Did you offer such bold statements to her?
Staring intensely into her eyes
Did you say ‘we are one’?

Acceptance by Roger Lapinsky

hand

I saw an old friend today
He asked for you
He asked of us
I did not say
‘We are no more’
I answered ‘all is well.’
You are gone
Why can I not accept this?
Time will heal all, they say
But the loss is deep
Like our love once was,
you are irreplaceable
But I will replace you
I will love again

The Easier Path by Sharon Hendricks

silhouette-67195_960_720

Life is just a journey
Full of twists and bends
But when you rely on family
And the value of your friends
You’ll find the journey is easier
that the path is not as rough.
Each step you take with others
Helps it be not so hard and tough.

My Love For You by Natasha Niemi

love

I can always feel it
At the bottom of my heart.
Bubbling like sweet, hot candy syrup,
It melts all doubt apart.
It’s the warmth that spreads
From my head to my toes
And only grows stronger
When the wind blows.
It’s the love I feel for you
That grows and grows
With each passing day.

No Hesitations by Sarah Spoors

thank-you

I can’t thank you enough
When the going got tough
You came through for me
Without expectations
No hesitations
You just acted
Without any questions
Thank you for being so
Kind
It means so much
There are many times
I do not know what I would have done
Had you not answered the phone when I called
You gave up your time
Even though you were busy
And did not ask for anything in return
I want you to know
That I truly appreciate
What you have done
Thank you

On Forgiveness by Alan Loren

Tis’ easy to seek forgiveness
granting it is another matter indeed
It requires a surgical precision
a careful separation of ego and reason
the forgiven remains suspect
the forgiver wary

Author of Unhappiness by Hank Cranston-Moore

lonelyI turned the pages yesterday
to an earlier chapter of my life
the chapter was called “our love”
It was a prescription for happy days
a recounting of joy
an ode to selflessness
a prelude to the next chapter
“our love lost”
a summary of deceit
of deception
mistrust
of forgiveness granted
of love never regained

Hurricane Dream by McCollonough Ceili

51N2IHKB-HL._SX311_BO1204203200

Like a wisp of smokes I see your ghost, Standing before me, as I reach for a memory too faint to see. Were you really standing there watching the coming storm, or from my imagination did that image form? You were oddly still while chaos spun around the room. Everyone else seemed to fear the coming doom. A hurricane was about to land upon the beach, and it was one you had to see. To keep everyone safe from harm, you risked it all, your near-fatal charm.

Precious by Sharon Hendricks

bike

Long is the road to reach a friend
when you live far away.
But even though I’m miles away
I’m thinking of you today.
I hope that you are happy
And I am thinking of you.
Our friendship is so precious
Friends like you are few.

Here For You by Natasha Niemi

silhouette-683751_1280

Even though I’m older,
And we often see things differently,
There’s not a single thing
I would not do for you.
No matter where you are
And no matter what you do
I will always be here for you.
You’re my baby sister,
And I love you.

Forgiveness by Hank Cranston-Moore

two_flowers

What if she were untrue?
Could I receive her?
Trust broken,
bonds frayed,
forgiveness?
Yes, it is forgiveness she would seek, but only I could grant it.
Would I want to?
I’m not so sure
Perhaps I could
but what is done is done
forgiveness does not beget reconciliation, though it might lead to consideration of such
Only I could make me believe in you again

Mother Earth by DeRicki Johnson

image

Mother Earth closed her eyes
To dream a World of whimsy
You can see it
All right here
Where the wall
‘Tween Worlds is flimsy
Here you might spy
A jabberwock
A dragon
Or a pixie
And over there, a healing tree
No matter what ill, will fix ye
Back in our World – this land of Man
There’s something you should know
We are but random stories
The Dreamer has dreamed so

Firsts by Sarah Spoors

coast

The first time you called me
Our very first date
I remember
That first kiss so clearly.
I’ll never forget
All the things we have done
For the love you have shown me
I’m grateful.
But time has taken
So much of the good
And we have grown tired of hurting,
And though this is hard
We both know it’s true
So let only fond memories
Reflect me and you.

Cruel Light by Hank Cranston-Moore

sunset

The window stands naked
Without any dressing
No shades or blinds.
Light penetrates
Uninterrupted.
I cannot bear the light
It quarrels with my sorrow
And though I am suffused in it,
the light has left my life.
For you are gone
and now it is emboldened.
It challenges me
through this exposed window
As if slapping me in the face
Cruel light
Leave me be
Allow me to wallow in pity

Someday by Sharon Hendricks

friend

I know we have to part for now
But our paths will cross again.
I know we’ll see each other someday
I just don’t know where or when.
But we have had some great times
and our memories I will treasure.
You have brought me happiness
much more than I can measure.

You are my world
My starlit night
My sunlight and my daydreams
Your love fills me with such joy
A future I now believe in
When I wake I think of you
And when I sleep I dream
Of now, tomorrow and forever
It’s with you I’ll be

Birdie by Alan Loren

bald-eagle-landing-on-nest

The golf ball exploded
Straight off of the tee
Into midair it soon took its flight
But when it looked down
It started to frown
For it then learned of its fear of height
It started to fall
After all it was just a ball
Like a diver straight into the ocean
But to its delight
An eagle in flight
Escorted him down in slow motion

Never Give Up by Natasha Niemi

dog

I hated myself
When I was down and out
But all of you never let me quit.
You told me that what I could believe
Was what I could achieve.
When I pushed,
You pulled.
When I cried,
You encouraged.
You guys have always lifted me up
And cheered me on
You taught me
To never, ever give up.

Who Am I by Sharon Hendricks

mountain1

I’m bigger than the entire earth
More powerful than the sea
Though a million, billion have tried
Not one could ever stop me.
I control each person with my hand
and hold up fleets of ships.
I can make them bend to my will
with one word from my lips.
I’m the greatest power in the world
in this entire nation.
No one should ever try to stop
a child’s imagination.

My Love by Natasha Niemi

wallpaper-sunset1

My love is a box
That is deep as the ocean.
My heart is a crater
Waiting to be filled.
My stomach,
Impatiently waiting for your response,
Is a group of drunken butterflies
Struggling to take flight.
What will you tell me?
Are you – my love?

Baseball by Alan Loren

me_bw

The ball came in close as it screamed past the batter
But the very next pitch was served on a platter
The batter swung mightily and the bat made a thwack
Whacking the ball with a thunderous crack
The scoreboard grew dizzy as it updated the score
While the fans in the seats let out a roar
The flag flew above in a westerly direction
Which the batter took note of upon closer inspection
The bases were loaded though they felt rather light
As the runners were leading just off to the right
The pitcher was ready, the crowd was alert
The batter bent down to rub his hands in the dirt
The stands were on edge, they didn’t want to be beat
If only the ball could muster some heat
The ball was released and came in like a flame
The very last pitch of this unforgettable game
The spectators gasped as they sent out their love
And the ball safely landed in the old catcher’s glove

My Guiding Light by Sarah Spoors

friends

Friendship is an unspoken bond
a common ground softly trodden
An intricate partnership
of shared tears and shared laughter
A commitment to each other through thick and thin
and a safe place to run to
when stormy weather lashes
Dear friend, thank you for being
my lighthouse
and guiding me safely home.

Looking into the Mirror by Roz Loren

mirror-1547919_640

I look into the mirror
and what do I see?
I see an old person
looking back at me

At ages 20 and 30
I was a sight to behold
And now at 70, I am growing old

At ages 40 and 50
I could still hold my own
I could still turn a head
and was never alone

60 was a triumphant year
but the extra pounds landed
right on my rear
A wrinkle or two
started lining my face
Then more and more,
at such a fast pace

I look into the mirror
and what do I see?
I see an old person
looking back at me

Oy, the knee
Oy, the hip
Oy, the back – oy vey

Monday, Tuesday, JCC
Wednesday, Thursday, Dr. Kaye
Cat Scan, MRI, colonoscopy
Oh the joys of growing old
But it’s better than not to be

However, the mirror
cannot see my heart
For youth is eternal
Never to part

Like a Bird by Roslyn Loren

1470599751399

Into the sky
My arms will fly
Like a bird that is proud and free
Away from my feelings
Far from my thoughts
Is the place I most want to be

It is only a week
Since last I felt
The warmth of your tender touch

Perhaps if my heart were to follow the birds
I’d forget that I miss you so much

Deep Love by Sarah Spoors

couple-260899_960_720

Nothing interferes
Close your eyes for me and listen
Tell me what you hear
Do you hear silence or traffic outside?
Can you tell if I’m near?
I can always feel you close
Even if you’re not here
We’re entwined together
Nothing interferes
So let’s take a moment
And take a kiss
Because this to me
Is pure happiness.
